La Di Da

Posted by Monique Polak in Untagged

What's that I hear, La Di Da? I was just washing the bathroom floor (part of my pre-writing ritual... I told this to my Writing for Children class last week and I could tell they thought it was very WEIRD), and I heard myself singing "La Di Da."

"La Did Da? What is that strange song -- and badly sung, too?" you may ask. Well, it's the sound of a writer who's about to settle in at her computer and do a little writing!! This is going to be a very busy week -- I'm giving exams at school and I'm doing a Blue Met teleconference on Thursday morning -- so my writing time is feeling extra precious. I'm back to my George River manuscript this week. I'm hoping to be able to submit the first four chapters and a synopsis to my editor at Orca -- by the end of next week. Hope you've got something to do today that makes you sing, too!

Well, it's not like washing the bathroom floor is the first odd thing you've mentionned to your students... although it definitely ranks high on the list of strange things! However, I think that these uncommon habits make you stand out and contribute to making you such an unforgettable teacher (in a good way, don't worry!). I noticed a classroom today where the desks were placed in a circle, and I remembered all of those early mornings when I'd leave the library earlier to have the time to place the desks the way you wanted them smilies/grin.gif
Good luck with your rewrite, and I'm looking forward to hearing more about the main character's adventures... the last I remember is something about a polar bear approaching in the distance!smilies/cheesy.gif

Oh yes, the other day, I stopped by Chapters to pick up books for my English class and, while I was there, my Mom picked up a book and suggested I look at it, because it seemed interesting. Well, now I'm reading Meg Rosoff's How I Live Now and so far it's quite interesting... I was quite surprised that, out of all the books on the table, my mother had to choose one whose author you'd mentionned a few days earlier!

Sometimes I sing, or listen to songs when I lose patience or inspiration for some kind of work. I feel dreadful if I do not finish the song, or book smilies/grin.gif that I have started. Once the song begins, I have to sing or hear it till the end, which I think contributes even more to the loss of my muse because I often get even more impatient

In other gloomy dimensions... I saw my R-score and thought about all the things I could have done last semester to improve it. Another question that came up was just how in the world am I going to improve or maintain the R-score?? I started to listen to Whisperings, a radio on iTunes, and it did good to calm me today. So... the mid February resolution is to not let procrastination control me. (I'm sorry, my writing is all wrong grammatically, but nevertheless, I must practice and strive for better.) Goodnight! I'm going to bed at 10:30 today. smilies/grin.gif my favorite smilie as always.

The desks in a circle are certainly nostalgic and bring thoughts of happier times...
