Time To Hit the Road

Posted by Monique Polak in Untagged

...or in my case, the sky.

Tomorrow afternoon, my photographer pal Monique Dykstra and I head for Harrington Harbour. It's a beautiful little fishing village on Quebec's Lower North Shore and we're both super excited about this trip. We're going as part of a project called Quebec Roots , sponsored by the Blue Metropolis Literary Foundation here in Montreal. The two of us will help a group of students produce a chapter in a book, using photos and words to capture what their community means to them.

On Tuesday morning early, Monique and will take a water taxi (FUN!) from Chevery to Harrington Harbour. We'll go right to Harrington Harbour School to meet our students. I'll try to do a blog entry that day to let you know how things go.

A famous Québecois feature film, La Grande Séduction , was filmed in Harrington Harbour, so in a little way, I feel like I already "know" the town a little. But I can't wait to really see it, and to meet the kids and learn their STORIES!

I also look forward to traveling with the other Monique, who has become a close friend over the last few years. You see, the truth is, I'm a bit of a homebody, but Monique D has the soul of a true adventurer, and I think that has rubbed off a bit on me, too. So even if you're staying home this week, I wish you grand adventures, too.

We'll be home Wednesday night and guess what else? Next Monday, I leave for a 12-day trip to Nunavik, where I'll be doing the northern launch of The Middle of Everywhere. Looks like this homebody is in for some fun!!
