What baby? My daughter's 26, a long way past kindergarten!

No, the baby is the new manuscript. About six seconds ago, I submitted it to my wonderful editor Sarah Harvey at Orca Books .

Submitting a manuscript feels to me like sending my baby off to kindergarten. Will she be well-behaved? Will people love her and treat her right?!!

Also, we moms tend to feel a little lost when the last baby leaves the house. For some women, it's a time to think about producing other kids. For me, it's time to think about producing other books, of course.

I was saying to my husband, "Maybe after I submit this one, I'll take a little time off from writing books." And guess what he did?

 HE LAUGHED AT ME.

After which he said, "I give you one week."

So keep watching this blog to find out whether it is possible for a person like me to live WITHOUT HAVING A BOOK TO WRITE!! There'll be lots of work to do re-writing the manuscript I just sent off to Sarah, but that won't happen for a while...  so maybe, just maybe, I'll start something new. Maybe next week. Or maybe tomorrow!!
