I was excited to learn that children's author Louis Sachar will be coming to read in Montreal this summer. You may know Sachar's YA book, Holes, which is one of my all-time favourites. Or perhaps you've seen the movie version.

A couple of weeks ago, one of my students did a presentation on Sachar. Armen (I'm pretty sure that was who did the presentation... correct me if I'm wrong, Armen, if you're reading today's blog entry) told us Sachar doesn't talk about a book until it's finished. Armen also learned Sachar generally spends about two hours a day writing. And Armen shared a great quote from Sachar: "What amazes me is that most days feel useless." Sachar must have plenty of stick-to-it-ive-ness to keep going despite those feelings... and that's encouraging for the rest of us, isn't it?

So here's some fun news: I've been invited to read at the same event Sachar will be presenting at. Hopefully, our paths will cross. If they do, you'll be sure to read all about it right here.
